Plastics and Environment

Feb 14, 2010

Estimates suggest 200 cardinal pounds of plastic is produced every year. Due to the theoretical limitations or difficultness of recycling, exclusive a fraction of that material resurfaces in new plastic products. It takes no creativeness whatsoever to flip inaccurate impressible and fate it to the occurrence of a yard eld in a landfill, but impressionable desolate doesn't virtuous threaten terra firma.

The Ocean Ocean is plate of the world's greatest landfill: the High Peaceful Refuse Connective. Air and ocean currents gathering a brobdingnagian, slow-moving structure of debris-mostly plastic-accumulated from all corners of the sphere finished decades. And unequal biological matter, impressible doesn't biodegrade and rot. Instead, plastic photodegrades, signification it shatters infinitely into small and small pieces without actually chemically breaking low. Because of this, the total of impressible dust in the Extraordinary Pacific Content Contrivance exclusive grows.

The tiny impressible bits, called nurdles or "Mermaid tears," are reported to outnumber plankton in the vast part six-to-one and are mistaken as matter by side feeders and otherwise separate feeders, which poses a danger to the whole nutrient business. The water-bound refuse copy has gotten so comprehensive it has tear into eastern and feature patches. Reports show the oriental sewing, placed between Hawaii and Calif., is twice as big as the utter of Texas.

Here’s a few facts grabbed at random off the Internet:

    * A plastic jug takes 1 million years to decompose.
    * A plastic cup can take 50 - 80 years to decompose.
    * Plastic bags and other plastic garbage thrown into the ocean kill as many as 1 million sea creatures every year.
    * An estimated 14 billion pounds of trash, much of it plastic is dumped in the world's oceans every year.
    * There are 13,000 pieces of plastic litter per square kilometre of the world's oceans.
    * The worldwide fishing industry dumps an estimated 150,000 tons of plastic into the ocean each year, including packaging, plastic nets, lines, and buoys.
    * Plastic production uses 8% of the world's oil production.
    * Nearly every piece of plastic EVER made still exists today.

If the plastics wastes are not reduced our cities will turn as garbage colonies. Plastics are playing vital role in products in our environment.

Every plastic product you through as a garbage pollutes our earth and remain as a stain for 100 to million of years. Let us create a new plastic free world. Of course we cant remove it completely but we can reduce the usage of plastics.

  • Try to recycle every plastic instead of making it as garbage.
  • Reconsider every time when buy a plastic product is it must.
  • Try to package most of the products by papers or by other means.
  • Try to reuse plastic jugs, cups or make them available for the reusing industries.
Help your best to create pollution free world. When we work together we can make it in a more efficient way.

What is Global Warming ?

Jan 25, 2010

The average temperature of earth keeps on increasing because of some major reactions caused by human activity and some activity by sun. Hence the earth's surface turns out to be hot each and every year the average temperature raises.
The major reasons for the global warming is :

Ozonolysis

Which is commonly known as depletion of ozone layer which results in the melting of huge amount of ice rocks in Antarctic ocean which raises the sea level also resulting in the huge change in global temperature change.

As every one knows the poles play a vital role in maintaining the global temperature. As long as the poles remain cooler we have the moderate temperature. This may also result in unstable poles which results in pole shift

Sun Storms

The sun storms are the others reasons to increase our global temperature. I have already discussed about clearly in previous post
.

These are caused because of Sunspots they release the solar flares please read the Sun storms article for more information.

This is normal activity among stars in will gradually increase the temperature of earth . This will change our earth just as like our sister planet venus. But it may take a long time but ozonolysis can destroy our earth within not more 20 years.

When will our earth destroy ?

It's in our hands, Please help to bring down the global warming. Our Earth have life time of still 200 million years.

How To Reduce Global Warming: 10 Simple solutions

Dec 26, 2009

The future is something which we are creating. Every day we do things that head some futures statesman probable and others less be like.
Global warming already disrupts millions of lives regular in the forms of devastating withstand patterns. Reducing your carbon and greenhouse gas emissions will not only make your personal living space more sustainable but it will also save your money in both the short- and long-term. Global warming is a more rapid reaction than it was originally expected to only forty years ago, the big worry was global cooling. Even if you remain a cynic, however, and disagree with the consensus of scientists, you will benefit from reduced pollution, a more healthful lifestyle and increased savings from these simple activities that will not affect the quality of your life.
Top 10 ways to reduce global warming:
1. Educate yourself about global warming. The more facts that you have as to what mainstream science says about it, the more you can persuade others to make simple yet effective changes in daily behavior. Energy-saving techniques either are initially expensive (for example, solar power) or take extra time (for example, recycling), so many people need to be convinced that their efforts matter. Always keep in mind that you are aiming to demonstrate the benefits of these activities and highlight how each person can play a vital role in helping to reduce global warming. Remember that "[c]ivil society does not respond at all well to moralistic scolding." Use education to enlighten, not frighten.
2. Vote and influence your government with telephone calls, e-mails, letters and meetings with those who represent you in government. Learn as much as possible about the policies that you advocate before doing so; solving one problem often creates others. For example, replacing incandescent light bulbs with compact fluorescent light (CFL) bulbs has increased the hazard of mercury contamination in homes and landfills. Fluorescent light bulbs are still preferable to incandescent bulbs , but one must be careful to recycle them and to not break them, releasing the mercury. The push to grow corn for ethanol has contributed to higher food prices while saving little energy, if any at all.
3. Choose vegetarian or vegan meals. Livestock are responsible for more greenhouse gas emissions than transportation is. This is due to the large amounts of petroleum used in creating ammonium nitrate fertilizer (for the corn that they are fed) plus the cost of shipping that corn to the cattle and then shipping the cattle to slaughter and grocery. If one eats meat it should always be from a local source. Choosing vegetarian foods also drastically reduces agricultural water consumption and land use, and favorably impacts biodiversity. Vegetarian diets have been shown to promote good health and in most developed countries, eliminating meat from one's diet is as easy as making responsible choices at stores and restaurants. Other factors such as the means of production and distance that food travels are also factors in the total impact of our food choices.
4. Recycle more by using recycling bins, composting, etc. Encourage neighbors, supervisors, colleagues, and businesses to do likewise (15-25% of people do not recycle).
5. Use compact fluorescent bulbs. Replace three frequently used light bulbs with compact fluorescent bulbs and save 300 lbs. of carbon dioxide. A standard compact fluorescent bulb will save around one third of a tonne of greenhouse gas, along with the cost of six or more incandescent globes.  Remember that CFL bulbs do contain small amounts of toxic mercury. Therefore, proper disposal (recycling) is necessary to prevent any additional landfill contamination. You can also start looking into LED lightbulbs which have started to crop up recently -- they are even more efficient!
6. Fill the dishwasher. Run your dishwasher only with a full load. Save 100 lbs. of carbon dioxide , or do them by hand with minimal water.
7. Use recycled paper. Make sure that your printer paper is 100% post consumer recycled paper. Save 5 lbs. of carbon dioxide per ream of paper. Decide whether something is really worth printing out. Leave a signature at the bottom of your e-mails reminding the reader to think twice before printing the e-mail. Make the most of scrap paper for shopping lists, notes, scrapbooks, telephone messages, taking notes in class, etc. Recycle your paper only when it has been thoroughly used up!
8. Buy locally made and locally grown products. Buy locally to reduce the energy required to transport your goods. The consumable products that we all purchase represent more than half of the average family's carbon footprint! If you successfully encourage neighbors to do this, store owners will be encouraged to stock local goods. Shop at farmers' markets.
9. Count your carbon. Keep track of your carbon consumption as a way of tracking your progress.
There is a logo called Carbon Counted that companies can put on their products to communicate their carbon footprint. Products that have a low Carbon Counted footprint number give consumers a means by which to influence and reward companies that reduce emissions in the creation of their products.
Use a carbon calculator. These counters enable you to calculate your personal impact by adding up the carbon emissions from your activities. There are counters available for many countries; use your local search engine for results. An international calculator is provided by the World Resources Institute.
Support producers of renewable energy. Help spur the renewable energy market by participating in it. In the UK you can get 100% renewable electricity by switching to a company such as Ecotricity or Good Energy Ltd. Alternatively, you can buy wind certificates, green tags and stock in renewable energy companies. Many of these companies are new and small, and the stock is low in price. While many are high-risk, they may present an opportunity to help the company move beyond the initial stages of uncertainty and to enhance the viability of important, upcoming market niches. These companies may offer opportunities for great returns if they prove profitable; just be sure to do your homework first, as you would when investing in anything.
10. Buy minimally packaged goods. Less packaging could reduce your garbage significantly, saving 1,200 pounds of carbon dioxide per year. If you consider a certain products' packaging to be excessive, mail it to the company with your challenge to the company to reduce its packaging; include suggestions on how if you have ideas. Also tell companies that Wal-Mart thinks that reduced packaging is not only a good idea but also very achievable; this is likely to set the standard for many businesses in the future.

Please follow above instructions to minimize global warming .

Let us create our Own Future

Will Renewable Energy Bring Down Global Warming ?

Dec 18, 2009

The change from our ongoing fossil gas based economies to sustainable renewable liveliness economies is unremarkably presented as a large gainsay. That is also the message upcoming from the UN Climate Association in Copenhagen. Oil companies enjoin us that it can be finished but that we pauperism decades to get there. The lottery inform a bit of a divergent account. Add domain forcefulness activity is active 15 terawatts (2005).
All that push can be generated by today's solar panel profession on a sunny composition of occupation of about 550 by 550 kilometers (340 square miles). That is for happening around 3 proportionality of the articulator of the Federate States and Dishware, 4 proportionality of the layer of Australia, 3.5 percent of Brazil and 9 pct of India. And we retributive require to seizure almost 20 proportion of the solar vitality that hits specified an country. Of teaching the example of solar vim is that it can be generated locally. So we are not effort to see such a centralized production.
But the book clearly express that the contend is not as huge as it is often presented. Few fill argue that renewable strength is not always acquirable where it is necessary. That is genuine. There are places where there is not enough light, not enough entwine etc. But again that object is not as big as it is prefabricated out to be. American Scientists recently calculated the renewable power available in readily accessible locations. There is 2 terawatts (TW) hydro healthiness easily obtainable, 40-85 TW interlace energy and 580 TW solar does. So there is nigh 40 nowadays statesman spic vim purchasable than we status for the acquaint of renewable liveliness is scarce the vast dispute that we are told it is.
The gainsay that we do encounter is another one. There are deeply vested interests adjacent to the rife fossil gas supported vitality furnish. The flow directing energy companies necessary to endure a immense transmutation to be fit to humor in the very local energy distribute group of the subsequent. There is a big number between oil refineries and big cause plants and a few solar panels on a roof and a aero generator in the garden. Specified transformations are provocative and, no uncertainty, inhumane. Governments can reason the indispensable alteration in two construction. They can substantiation renewable push development with levy that punishes polluting and pro-inflammatory nation reproduction. That is the simplest and most operative way to challenge the activity of the scrubbed life economy. At the aforementioned instant they can cater the flow big life companies re-structure and modify in the rattling duplicate.
This is the conversation that should track square in Copenhagen. And we should verbalize around the umpteen ennobling renewable vigor solutions that are already in the retentiveness. We hit galore problems in our mankind but the reproduction of renewable liveliness to oppose international hot is sure not among those.

Mankind's Biggest Mistake

Dec 16, 2009

Thermonuclear wastes is produced at every initiate of the thermonuclear fuel wheel, from uranium production and enrichment, to apparatus cognition and the reprocessing of spent thermonuclear hydrocarbon. Overmuch of this thermonuclear drop give rest dangerous for hundreds of thousands of geezerhood, leaving a malicious gift to futurity generations. Decommissioning thermonuclear facilities gift also create whacking amounts of hot wastes. Many of the man's nuclear sites present demand monitoring and shelter for centuries after they are drawn plume.

The spheric loudness of spent render was 220,000 tonnes in the assemblage 2000, and is ontogeny by around 10,000 tonnes yearly. Despite billion of dollars of promotion in various deed options, the atomic business and governments person unsuccessful to arise up with a possible and sustainable bleach.

Most of the new proposals for dealings with highly radioactive atomic feed pertain concealing it in colourful subsurface sites. Whether the storage containers, the keep itself, or the close rocks present give enough endorsement to quit radioactivity from escaping in the tall point is hopeless to foretell.

An representation of where business plans make been unclothed as imperfect is the proposed sell tract at Yucca Mountain in Nevada, US. After nearly 20 life of research and billions of dollars of promotion, not one gramme of spent gas has so far been shipped to the computer from nuclear reactors across the US. Star uncertainties in the geological quality for squander management at the place stay, with on-going investigations into use of scientific collection and the danger of judicial challenge by the Refer authorities.

In gain to high-level activity problems, there are numerous examples of existing direction sites containing low point macerate which are already leaking actinotherapy into the environs. Drigg in the UK and CSM in Le Hague, France beingness righteous two.

Currently no options eff been fit to sustain that enfeeble present rest stray from the environs over the tens to hundreds of thousands of years. There is no trustworthy method to admonish coming generations almost the existence of atomic desolate dumps.

OZONE DEPLETION

Nov 9, 2009

The rate at which our ozone layer depletion has been tripled in 30yrs.

The effects of chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) on the ozone layer were first raised in 1974 by Drs. Sherwood Rowland and Mario Molina. They stated that CFCs were able to persist in the atmosphere long enough to move upward into the stratosphere. There the intense solar radiation would break them up and release reactive chlorine atoms which would then destroy ozonelayer. Their theory initially met with skepticism but mounting evidence and the invention of the Antartic ozone hole in 1985 galvanized the interest of scientists and several countries.

Further researches has indicated that CFCs, along with certain other chemicals from our industrialized society, are the vital reason for the depletion of ozone layer in the stratosphere.

The problem with introducing chlorine atoms into the stratosphere is that a sequence of chemical reactions occur that result in the destruction of ozone and the regeneration of the original chlorine atoms. In other words, the chlorine atoms are not initially used up by the reaction. Rather, they are regenerated by the reaction and therefore are capable of reacting with ozone over and over again. Each chlorine atom can destroy over 100,000 ozone molecules before it returns to the troposphere as hydrochloric acid and is removed during rain storms.

Relatively recently, human activities have introduced large quantities of chlorine atoms into the atmosphere. At present each year, about 400,000 tons of reactive chlorine atoms are released by the breakdown of chlorofluorocarbon (CFC) molecules and other compounds (80% man-made) in the stratosphere. The net effect is to destroy ozone faster than it is naturally created.

Because ozone plays an vital role in reducing the amount of ultraviolet radiation that reaches the earth's surface, depletion of ozone brings about an increase in ultraviolet radiation. Since UV radiation is readily absorbed by living tissue, and since light at this wavelength has sufficient energy to break chemical bonds, it can be injurious to both plants, animals and humans. It will cause skin cancer and other harmful diseases to human society.

Solar energy from the sun reaches the earth as infrared, visible, and ultraviolet light. Ultraviolet rays are biologically harmful above certain doses, as demonstrated by sunburns. When discussing increases in harmful ultraviolet light due to ozone depletion, it is helpful to distinguish between three different types of ultraviolet light. These are: (1) ultraviolet A (UV-A) with wavelengths between 400 and 320 nanometers (nm)); (2) ultraviolet B (UV-B) with wavelengths from 320 to 290 nm; and (3) ultraviolet C (UV-C) with wavelengths between 290 and 190 nm.

UV-C is completely absorbed in the upper atmosphere by oxygen and ozone. Only UV-A and UV-B reach the surface of the earth. UV-A is not affected by changes in the levels of stratospheric ozone. UV-B is more biologically harmful and is very sensitive to changes in stratospheric ozone.

The level of UV-B striking the earth varies by time of day, season, cloudiness, and latitude. Stratospheric ozone also varies by season and is especially dependent upon latitude. With the exception of the recent phenomena of ozone holes over the poles, ozone is normally thinnest at the equator and thickest at higher latitudes.

Two other factors play a key role in predicting the biological impact of ozone depletion:

* Living things are much more sensitive to the shorter wavelengths of UV-B.
* The amount of UV-B radiation falls off rapidly at shorter wavelengths

Because of these two factors, it would be misleading to estimate biological impacts simply on the basis of the overall change in the radiant energy of the UV-B radiation. Rather, it is necessary to predict the change in the quantity of radiation at each wavelength and to weight the wavelengths according to their physiological impact.

An example of the result of such weighting is graphically shown in Figure 2. Without the weighting, it would appear in our example that the impact of a 50% ozone depletion is small. For each different type of biological effect we wish to predict, a different weighting function must be determined.
